The mission of Theresa Banks
Swim Club (TBSC) is to provide youths, between the ages of 5 and 18, the
opportunity to participate in age group competitive swimming, to develop
advanced swimming skills, to excel in a sport, to meet new people, and have a
lot of fun. TBSC emphasizes a team concept where swimmers of every ability
level can benefit from the social rewards of participating with others.
Academic excellence is encouraged and achieved through the development of
physical and mental conditioning, responsibility, and self-discipline. TBSC is
recognized throughout the Glenarden Community and Prince George's County as one
of the most outstanding swim clubs in the metropolitan area.
The only qualification for
team membership is a basic knowledge of a few different strokes. As a general
rule, anyone who can get across the pool with a crawl stroke, backstroke,
breaststroke, or basic butterfly can join the team. As long as the beginning
proficiency is there, the coaching staff can work developing the talent.
During the months of June and
July, the club is registered under the Prince-Mont Swim League (PMSL). PMSL was
founded in 1959 to sponsor and coordinate age-group competitive swimming
programs during the summer months in and among member teams. The intent is to
develop in the swimmers participating in this program, a love for the sport,
advanced aquatic skills, teamwork, and the principles of good sportsmanship.
Every swimmer gets to
participate in at least two individual races per meet. There are five (5) dual
meets, a divisional meet, and the All-Stars competition during the summer
months.
